Chapter Twelve

"Selena Ortega gave birth to Pedro Francisco's son three days ago," Roman said without preamble as soon as Tristan called him back. Lillian was sleeping on his chest, her body still sprawled across his.

"Fuck," Tristan breathed into the phone, stunned by the news. He'd been positive Francisco wouldn't have sent her into Los Angeles pregnant with his only heir. He'd wanted that to be Elijah's kid for reasons he couldn't even begin to explain to himself, let alone to anyone else. "Why the hell did he send her here?"

"Guerrero convinced Francisco to let her visit," Roman said. "The plan was for her to return to Sinaloa a little over three months ago, before things got too bad here. He had no idea she was planning to run once she got a chance. As far as she knows, her brother had no clue that's why she wanted to visit him either."

"Jesus," Tristan whispered. No wonder she'd jumped at the chance to disappear when Roman offered it to her. She'd already been planning to disappear on United States soil, taking Francisco's child with her. And she'd used her brother to help make it happen. Not that Tristan blamed her. Had he been in her shoes, he would have run like hell the minute he got a chance. But that didn't help them much. If she wasn't carrying Elijah's kid, she probably wouldn't have been privy to his plans. "She's useless to us."

"Not necessarily."

"What's that mean?" Tristan asked, twisting a loose strand of Lillian's hair around his finger.

"Six months ago, she crossed the border with Elijah Noel. She doesn't know if Francisco was suspicious of her sudden desire to see her brother or if he was just being extra cautious, but Noel was her guard dog."

"Jesus Christ."

"He left her in her brother's care and then headed north to Seattle to check on their operation there. I'm guessing he planned to return to Los Angeles shortly thereafter, but you foiled that plan when he caught you inside Teplo. According to what she told Carter, he's been living in Los Angeles for the last year, and has been making trips back and forth back and forth between Sinaloa and Seattle. He'll keep digging for more to see what he can pry out of her. Here's the real kicker though…she was staying in his house. We couldn't figure out why the fuck Guerrero had her all the way over in Mar Vista without bodyguards. Guess they figured she wouldn't need them since she was living with el jefe."

"We need to comb through that house." If Elijah had been staying there, he may have left something behind that would help them track the bastard down or figure out what he'd been up to during his time in the city. Hell, it was possible he'd burned the damn house to the ground to try to hide his tracks as much as to keep those warehouses off their radar.

"Figured you'd say that," Roman sighed, sounding like the last thing he wanted to do was crawl through the ruins of the Spanish villa.
